The ups and downs of our planned new life to NZ, warts and all!

Its up and downWed 24 October 2007
The weekend was really good, it was great to meet some of the guys from the BE site and see Karen again.  A really good time.  The Monday was slightly tainted by the feedback from the interview I'd had on Friday.  I left feeling keen and confident, but Monday's email told me that the Owner wanted to meet Steve!!  I was furious that the weight of a job offer rested on Steve.  I sent a crappy email back saying that Steve's employers had not asked to meet me, so I couldn't see the relevance.  On Tuesday another previous interview that had seemingly gone well resulted in them asking me to complete ANOTHER pscyhe test.  Is there just something about me??!!!  This morning I was feeling quite miserable and down trodden by the feedback.  It had been so hard to get to the interview stage and now these weird requests shook me a little.  So this afternoon the Owner from Friday contacted the recruitment consultant to make sure all the checks (refs/polices/credit, etc) would be completed ASAP because she was very impressed, and after sending an email to the pscyhe testers to withdraw my application on the job because I 'would rather work for a company that placed less emphasis on psychological tests and more faith in experience and intuition,' I received a phone call from the Manager of the branch I was going for.  He said I was his 'no 1' candidate and very much wanted me on board.  The tests were formalities set by Head Office, which I just had to grin and bear, but he wanted me regardless.  It was so flattering to receive the call that I went and did the tests this afternoon.  My confidence is very much restored.  The Nanny is settling in wonderfully.  Its wonderful to be able to pop to interviews or even to the shops and leave the girls behind.  I'm not used to the freedom!  And Steve's not missing work trying to look after the girls.  The new house is wonderful, I was very disappointed to learn that they owners have no intention to sell as its a family house, but like Steve says, things change.  At least we know we're safe in the house for the next couple of years and I can only hope that the owners decide to stay in Auckland.  Steve's really enjoying his job in the city and seems to be doing well.  Oh, and I found a school for Moons, she starts next week.  I'm part happy about it, part sad for her.  It'll be the best for her in the long run.  Pip is starting to grow fond of the Nanny which is no mean feat, she doesn't like anyone except me usually!  Its nice to have someone to trust here that I can leave her with.  This evening is a  little stressful, money that we transferred into our Kiwi account from the UK hasn't hit and we can't find it so we don't have access to cash in NZ and our rent is due, not to mention other bills.  I hate banks!   So, as the sunsets over the sea I must take this time to congratulate Karen on her new job offer, not that any of us doubted K at all.  She's smart, sassy and Welly will be lucky to have her.

Its all falling into placeWed 24 October 2007
I love the way you withdrew from the application and then they called you.

You have had such a rough ride with your migration, it's nice to see things falling into place for you.

I just hope I can be as strong when its my turn.
