So, I still have lots of stray bits lying around me which I would love to scoop up and put in the bin, but I just know if I do that - I will chuck away something important. I've already gotten told off by Steve for throwing away a receipt because he'd won some day out thing on a Warehouse scratchcard. He was quite convinced the prize would be a day's skiing in Mt Hutt. Yes, generally I find I do have to hide those sorts of things away from Steve. Just a few weeks ago he was begining to convince himself that he had won a few thousand dollars care of Readers Digest. Anyway, the point of this entry is to record that we've finally moved into our new digs. Of course it wasn't smooth sailing, favourite reflections include buying a 'bargain car' off trademe for the Au Pair that arrives this week (GULP!), and having permission to park outside our new place on Sunday night. We stuffed pretty much everything in and then drove over, me following Steve. Well, that was the plan. The car died en route. So, there is the reason for the bargain! We had to purchase a tow rope and Steve had to drag me along behind. Never been towed before, so found the prospect of staring at the back of Steve's shiny red Ford Falcon a little daunting. One mistake on braking time and there would have been instant divorce! We made it, only to discover that the tennants had gotten their day's wrong, and so weren't ready. We were able to park at the bottom of the drive but explained that we would have to come back and drag the car up the drive the following morning very early because the movers were coming at 8am. We were given one key and sent on our way. So, next morning (Mon) we arrived at the property at 7.30 to discover removal men waiting. Going up the drive, we saw a car left there. A little black honda, blocking the entrance to the front door! Couldn't get hold of the estate agent, tried police who ran a check and confirmed that the car belonged to previous tennat and couldn't move it from private ground. We all waited and finally at 8.30 estate agent called to apologise and say she would keep trying to get hold of tennant who had disappered. Eventually tried council and they didn't want to know either because it was on private ground. The fact it was MY private ground was seemingly irrelevant. Removal guys started to unload stuff into borrowed van and drive it near the house to unload some of the lighter stuff. Late morning owner of the Honda arrived, sunglasses on, quickly took car and sped off. No apology from that little git. Move progressed and then Mr Rentals turned up. Told us the dryer had failed a safety test so there would be a delay, the washing machine I wanted was unavailable, so had temporary tiny, tiny machine - which I later discovered doesn't work!! Telly was welcome though! Soon Sky arrived, the guy walked in, loaded up the rugby channel and two of his mates came in!! Seriously, three people were hunched over my telly watching rugby. I don't even have the rugby channel! When they finally left (only stopping talking about rugby to each other to ask me to sign a cheque and statement of all the WORK they did), I discovered they had wiped my package!! Still, as we blobbed along trying to find homes for things we could only find humour in the various situations. By evening as we ordered our ritual pizza we watched the sun set over the horizon. We can actually see the South Island from our house! How cool is that?! And the girls' bedroom is wonderful. Now they're sharing there are so many toys and we put loads of effort into making it as homely as possible. This is definietely the nicest house we've ever rented and guess what? Its the cheapest! Incredible! We can actually stay here long term and easily sort out a place to buy. Picked up the dog as well, she's quite confused about the whole thing, but its nice to have her back - although she's mostly just slept. The kennels she was in were very nice and it cost half the price of the bad one she started off in. Its things like this which make us feel that our luck is changing. And when problems do occur - like the car and the Sky incident - I feel able to chalk it up and move on from it.
Today I had a second interview with Recruitment company. The Branch Manager told me that I was through to the next round. Although he still has others to see he was impressed with me. Which is ironic because my enthusiasm for their company is starting to dwindle. I've already sat a load of tests and now I have to sit another two and then there's a final interview. For godssake people - how sure do you need to be!!
Pip has turned one now. We had a lovely weekend and I really enjoyed being to buy things for her without thinking about an international move! She has her first rocking horse type toy, its a bright yellow giraffe and she loves it! Although so does Moons! So yes, all is well and good in the Littletoe house. Just need to get Moon into school and we're settled! YAY! |
