The ups and downs of our planned new life to NZ, warts and all!

What a sh*t dayWed 10 October 2007

This morning the rain poured as we read over all our paperwork for court.  We received an email from the moving company telling us they expected full payment before we received our furniture delivered.  The company have been less than professional from the start and communication has been dire, so we said that we'd pay a deposit and the rest on delivery.  The guy just launched at me over the phone, saying it was rubbish.  No way would he accept that.  He said we would have to arrange for someone else to come and get our furniture from storage as he would no longer deliver it.  We need it delivered on Monday, so its unlikely that we'd get anyone to move it on time.  Steve and I (and the girls) would have to drive to Auckland with a rented truck and bring it down ourselves.  We were so upset with all the stress (its also Pip's first birthday this weekend) and the reality that everything had turned to sh*t again made us both break down.  I went from screaming like a banshi to crying like a baby.  At the court, it was a telephone conference, we had no one else in the room.  The room was tiny and the girls' were bored and tired.  They screached down the phone and Steve and I had to take it in turns to leave the room with them.  The Judge was a total bitch.  She berated us for not sending our evidence to her.  We explained that we had given it to the Debt of building and housing, and hadn't anticipated this set up.  She said we should have done our research before our appointment.  Janeane was the most professional she's ever been.  Coming with all her evidence and references that she's not done yet.  She also made a point of saying that we'd left our last property because we didn't get on the with the landlord which really infuriated me.  Fortunately the judge didn't want to hear that, but how out of order is that!  She knew about our last landlord and agreed that she'd heard about him before, so to imply that what she was unforgivable.  We had to take a recess at one point so we could fax all of our documents over.  Janeane also said that she'd made a payment to our account this morning!!  Then she said we should have checked our bank!!  It was in the morning before our court appointment and she'd  not even told us!  The judge was questioning our decision to leave Auckland, Pip and moons were screaming, I honestly felt our day couldn't get any worse.  Then my phone rang.  It was the Manager from the position I'd interviewed with on Friday afternoon with my migraine.  She was letting me know I was unsuccessful.  I gave my polite, thanks for the call, and then the tears came again.  We'll find out the outcome from today in a letter because the judge had more appointments and didn't have time for that today.  Steve tries to reassure us by saying that at least its over for good now.  But I'm annoyed at Janeane's tactics to drag this on and being so unreasonable.  Steve's taken so much off work, I feel sick and tired.  We have the move tomorrow to a motel and then what?  Who knows.  Chances are we'll be stuck paying rent and motel accommodation because we've not sorted out the furniture situation.  This rental thing is so unfair.  They say that tennants have rights here and encourage you to stand up for yourself when things have been breached, but when you do, real estate agents walk right over you.  The judge was sat with there with Janeane, she had an immediate advantage over us.  Not to mention they probably see each other regularly.

Miserable.

Not to worry, it's over and done with - at least it isn't dragging on any more. Hope it turns out in your favour.
