The ups and downs of our planned new life to NZ, warts and all!

Remember that job I didn't want to get?Thu 23 August 2007

They called this morning and offered me the position.  We'd looked at rentals in Welly, I had some great job feedback, we were focused.  Now this has totally thrown a spanner in the works.  Fantastic job opportunity back here, where we wanted to get out of.  I have very little time to come to a decision.  One minute, I'm thinking, YAY, I want this job, I can handle the place.  Next minute I'm looking forward to a different life in Welly.  The job here is project management, the jobs in Welly are Account/Sales Management.  The latter gives me more money, a car, etc.  Its what I know.  The fomer has less money, but its for a worthy cause, I could really make a difference.  Moving out of our home into another in the area is a really hard thing as well.  Maybe if we could just stay here it would be easier.  But that's not an option!  With all the chemicals and people that will be coming and going over Summer.  It would have been easier if they'd made the decision for me.

For anyone reading this entry - PLEASE offer me some advise that I can think over.  I'd really, REALLY appreciate it!

Decisions decisions!Thu 23 August 2007
Well first off - congratulations on getting the job offered to you. See - you are VERY employable! So, decision time. Just ask yourself: what will make me happier - Wellington which you love in a comfortable job, or Auckland which you hate in a job you would love? In all honesty it sounds to me like you've decided on Welly already...? Work to live, don't live to work - you don't spend weekends at work do you? You will find another rewarding job in Welly - I have every faith in that. That's my opinion anyway. Good luck in whatever you decide - for it will always be the right one.

Write the pros and cons of your new job and staying where you are on a piece of paper and do the same for moving to a new place right next to it.

Read your list before you go to bed and then put it away until the next morning.

When you wake - hopefully with a clear head, go with whatever one 'feels right' because be sure one of them will seem far more obvious once you have had time to clear your mind.

Really the one with far more cons is not the one for you. Well done on getting the job because it proves you are not only employable but you can get decent employment positions as well.
