The ups and downs of our planned new life to NZ, warts and all!

The job I really want - but I hope I don't get!Mon 20 August 2007
I had a second interview for great job today.  Its a project management position that I first interviewed for ages ago.  I really wanted this job.  Its an excellent opportunity and its for a great cause as well.  Initially the project is for one year, but it should, if the government funding allows, go into three years.  The time between the interviews a lot has happened.  We've decided to move now.  The court case for the house will probably result in us being allowed to break our tenancy.  We're both looking forward to moving and I know I have some other great jobs available to me in Welly.  However, if I'm offered this job I will want to stay.  I HATE AUCKLAND, so it'll be mean moving somewhere around here still.  But its just too good an opportunity to let pass.  If they don't offer me the job, I'll be gutted!  But at least it means we can look forward to going ahead with our move out of Auckland.  It really poses a quandry!  But there isn't anything I can do until I know, which should be around Friday.  I think the interview went well, there was a panel of about 8 people there. I seemed to have the skills they required and the ability to do the project.  BUT, I'm not a local.  This means I'll have the added task of trying to gain people's trust before I can push on with the project.  I think this job won't come down to skills or qualifications.  It'll come down to the right person.  They've been very particular about the role and only three of us made it to this round.  I would imagine that the three of us have the skills and experience required.  Its just who they like most!  I think if someone that's lived locally all their life and knows all the different organisations and is familiar with the moari culture, they'll probably get the job.  So, we'll just have to wait until Friday and go from there.  Its unusual though, although of course - nothing is ever straight forward for me!

Good luck!Mon 20 August 2007
What decisions! Well, for the sake of confidence alone I hope you get the job and at least have the option of turning it down. Good luck either way.
