The ups and downs of our planned new life to NZ, warts and all!

I did it! I went to the gym!Sun 19 August 2007

I jumped on the gym bandwagon today.  Everyone's doing it, and I've been feeling like a lazy fat sod, so I decided to do it.  That, and you know when you make fat comments to your hubby and he quickly says, 'Nooooo, you're perfect how you are' but one day those comments stop.  So yesterday evening, there I was waffling on about getting a gastric bypass (its not THAT dramatic, people get them done like a routine filling nowadays), and he responded, 'Can't you just stop eating so much.'  *GASP!*  In the mind of a man, that was just a logical, meaningless comment, but I translated it as, HE THINKS I'M FAT!  I pushed again a little later with, 'we could easily afford the repayments.'  He in turn asked me to wait until we'd moved and were more settled.  *GASP!*  He really thinks I'm a fat arsed, lazy, wobbly woman!!  I sat silently brooding over this as he watched the television.  This morning I woke up STILL moody at the fact that MY husband thought I was fat, and he realised I was a bit moody about something but obviously concluded that if he didn't mention anything I'd probably get over it.  Well, I didn't.  I jumped in my car and headed to the local gym.  I didn't want a year's membership because we're clearly leaving soon, so they offered me a concession card, 10 goes at $110.  I handed over the cash, drove home got in my workout gear, shouted out to Steve I'd joined the gym for $110 and then quickly jumped in my car as his head slowly bobbed up from cleaning the car.  Right, I'll show him I thought as I enthusiastically climbed aboard the bike.  Ten minutes I climbed off slightly less enthusiastic.  Now I'm very much a, 'I don't give a crap what people think of me,' sort of gal, but at the gym its school days all over again.  People are obviously watching me feeling sorry for me, seeing how little I can actually do!  NO, I won't let them see how unfit I am, so I pushed and pushed at everything I did.  Driving home was really hard as my right leg was basically numb, thank god its an auto!  I feel great for the workout though.  They also have kickboxing and self defense classes which I'll do throughout the week.

It was a beautiful afternoon, so I suggested that we all head to the beach again, only this time, we'll stick to the tracks!  We sat in the boot of the landy, Steve and I drank red wine, the girls sat together and had juice and sandwiches and we really thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  As I said before, when its nice weather, it feels like all is right with the world.  I'm especially looking forward to knowing that in less than a month this awful Auckland experience will be over.  We can move somewhere else and start a fresh.  Amen to that!

I'm going to soak in the bath now, I have a feeling I won't be able to move much tomorrow!

Kickboxing - DO IT!Sun 19 August 2007
The T used to do kick boxing. She now scares the sh*t out of me when she fronts up - that girl knows how to PUNCH! Apparently it's a great laugh, and gets you fit in no time. Better than slogging away on gym machines, feeling everyone's eyes boring into your blubbery arse (or is that just me...?). Gyms no more for me - cycling and walking seem to be doing the job. Landy trips sound great - I WANT ONE! :0)
