The ups and downs of our planned new life to NZ, warts and all!

Sorted new house, another move beckons!...but it looks like we're getting a dog!Thu 24 May 2007

All confirmed and paid for, we move in officially on the 2 June, but as this house doesn't expire until 6th June, we have a good period of time to move over. Had no problems arranging SKY, Telecom and broadband to switch.  In this house, the master en suite is a mess from not being fixed, wood damage, tiles are starting to look wonky.  Can't believe the landlord STILL hasn't bothered to come and have a look.  Where the bathroom joins the carpet, its gotten mouldy from the damp.

Steve whisked me off to Rotorua at the weekend.  It was a wonderful break, soaking in the thermal spas, had a massage, stayed in wonderful accomodation, but since returning its like we never left.  Everyday since we got back we've been told that people are coming to view the house at 9.30am.  And every morning its been cancelled, last minute.  I don't know if its concidence or we're being severly messed around.  We've had to call around and get quotes for the move and yet again, another holiday gets in the way, this time Queens birthday, so rates are high.  We are excited about the new place, we've been to see it three times now, and the property management woman is really, really good.  Head tightly screwed on, paperwork in, she's asked the landlord for things we didn't even think of!  She's really nice, but not in a fake way or an empty promises way, she's professional and that's important.  She knows of our current landlord and his reputation, so that's good as well!  Seen the advert for our current place on the net, lots of untruths on there, hope that the next person will be smart about the place, and their expectations.  Wish we'd spent more time looking into it all before we moved in.  Ah well, you live you learn.

Had training off last weekend as a 'break,' but getting back into it this weekend.  Luckily because we're staying in this area, it'll still be 'my' area.  Happy about that.  My paperwork is off, so that's a huge weight lifted.  Hope to get work permit in less than 60 days now.

Asked property management woman if we might be able to get a dog, and she said he probably wouldn't mind.  Well, thats me off now!!  I've been hunting for a doggy for us!  I really like older dogs that need a new home.  Older dogs have more character and are less likely to find homes.  I've already contacted some people!  Steve's getting a bit worried, he wanted to put the breaks on and make us wait until we're more settled, but I'm really excited about it!

So much is going on!!  Crazy times.  Just crazy times!  Need another holiday!
