The ups and downs of our planned new life to NZ, warts and all!

Hit a snagSun 6 May 2007
So I've just finished my first weekend of training.  It was TOUGH going, I heard some stories that were really upsetting, which I won't post here, but suffice to say, I gave my family big cuddles when I got home.  Although I was concerned about some issues, such as I was dreading the grief aspect of this job, telling relatives about a horrific death, I do believe I have it in me to do this job.  I think I'll be given sufficient training to help get myself through it as much as the family I'm supporting.  I've made friends with a wonderful woman on this course, she always does this area, so I think we'll provide a good comfort of support for each other.  I did feel very drained last night, but I'm not used to have a day of horrific stories!  The problem at the moment is that our landlord is being a total arse.  He's nothing but a lazy drunk.  Our water pump broke, the guest bathroom is flooded, things were supposed to be fixed before we moved in, but they've not been finished properly and its a constant battle trying to get him to do anything.  On Saturday night we were kept awake by a party, it didn't stop until 2.45am and we're convinced our landlord was at that party.  He had a party at his 'office' on the land, which we had to tell him was too loud the night after.  He does have his own house, but we suspect he is having marital problems because he sleeps in the office a lot.  I wanted us to get over here and get our own place and settle.  But its not been without its hiccups.  I could usually deal with this sort of thing, but because of all the stress before we arrived and not expecting to run into these problems, its been very draining.  As usual, I do know there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and its temporary issues, but I'd kind of like to be in a place 'emotionally' where its not a constant battle.  I want my counselling training to be my only focus, not all the other crap.
