Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - Getting Just That Little Bit Closer to Going Native! |
I
received some good news in the mail today. It's been a little over five
months since I last had anything to do with USCIS and amongst the mail
was an envelope from the USCIS in Texas.
I wondered what it could be... Inside was a single sheet of paper. It
was an I-797C, a Notice of Action (aka NOA) with the title, "Request
for Applicant to Appear for Naturalization Initial Interview".
Wow! About time. Funnily enough. Earlier today, I was PMing a BE member
and she mentioned about me getting US citizenship this year. I wrote in
a reply that I hoped to get a letter from the USCIS before the end of
February. The letter I received today was much better than that.
My appointment is early in the morning of February 16th in Charlotte,
NC. All being well, this should be my last visit to Charlotte for
immigration related matters. I will be getting to Charlotte the day
before because I live more than a few hours drive away.
I wouldn't say my application has taken a very long time. For those
who're on the same path as me or will be undertaking the N-400
(naturalization process), here's my timeline-
4/26/05: N-400 application mailed to TSC
4/28/05: N-400 received by TSC
5/12?/05: NOA rec from TSC
6/4/05: rec NOA for fingerprinting. Appt scheduled for 7/5/05
7/5/05: biometrics and fingerprints taken at ASC in Charlotte
1/3/06: NOA for Naturalization interview received
2/16/06: date of Nationalization interview
I don't want to think how much money and time it's taken to get to this point but naturalization is a practical choice for me.
