When I was younger, I used to rollerblade for fun. I still have a pair of rollerblades (or inline skates, as they're sometimes called). I haven't rollerbladed in years, but tonight I tried an experiment. I thought perhaps I could try some of my ice skating moves on rollerblades for some practice. I put on my rollerblades and skated around my tiled living room floor for a bit. Oh my goodness...it's such a different feeling from ice skating! I thought it would be a lot more similar, but it's not at all. The rollerblades don't glide the same way as ice skates (well, duh, lol). I can't move my feet on rollerblades the same way I do on the ice for balance. I don't think I can use rollerblades to practice any of my ice moves. The only thing I might be able to do is just use them to build up my leg strength.
I saw some videos on YouTube of people doing some moves like the Mohawk turn on rollerblades, but I don't think I can manage that. The balance and gliding is just too different from doing it on the ice. I also don't want to learn it on rollerblades and then have it feel differently on the ice.
Guess I'll just stick to ice practice and keep my rollerblades in my closet!
