EB1, here we come!

Thursday 11 August 2011 - Air mail

Last week we received the birth certificate affidavit from the Philippines which took 3 weeks to arrive from the date stamp on the envelope! Seems that airmail from the Philippine provinces goes by regular mail to Manila and then airmail only from there, hence why it takes so long.

We went to the Philippine Embassy a couple of weeks ago to get the wife fingerprinted in order to obtain her police certificate. This was later than planned due to illness, so it's probably only just arrived in the Philippines now. Then it'll take another few weeks to come back!

So all this has delayed us somewhat. We'd hoped to have the interview done before the baby was born but that is extremely unlikely now. This means an extra $794 to pay for an immigrant visa for the baby and more paperwork that somehow has to catch up with the rest of the paperwork when the baby didn't exist in immigration's eyes!

On the positive front, we've had two offers of places to stay (friends and relatives) for a few weeks until we get a rented apartment. One is in LA itself; the other in Victorville. We'll probably stay in Victorville as it's only an hour (on a good day!) from the areas in LA we're likely to need to visit so we can go there and back in a day. That certainly makes things easier (and cheaper!) initially, and we won't have to buy beds, sort out internet, etc, on day 1.

About Me

My attempt to get an EB1a visa for the US, a person of extraordinary ability, which gives a green card pretty much immediately, and there is no waiting period unlike most other visas.
