Sunday 6 February 2011 - Tested positive...
...for pregnancy! Not me, obviously, but the wife. Fantastic news but it does raise a few issues. Moving to the US whilst pregnant can be tricky for medical insurance as one needs to be on a group policy or otherwise have cover pregnancy as a "pre-existing condition". Even with cover, it might not kick in straight away (I've heard figures of 3 months for some policies) and it just won't be worth it if this is the case. Therefore we'd probably have the baby in the UK and then move to the US a few months after.
This is assuming, of course, that I get this visa. Turns out a seemingly innocuous question on the I-140 about proposed employment is somewhat more important than first realized. I know USCIS want to be sure that I'll continue in my field of endeavor but it's hard to get a job without a visa, and it's also hard to get a visa without a job.
But as luck would have it, I emailed a few contacts on Thursday and by Friday I had the offer of a telephone interview - with a potential employer in Los Angeles doing exactly what I'm good at! If I can at least get a positive "we're interested" email out of that then that should be the proposed employment sorted!
Sometimes you have really crap weeks; other times fantastic ones. I guess this is one of the good ones!

About Me
My attempt to get an EB1a visa for the US, a person of extraordinary ability, which gives a green card pretty much immediately, and there is no waiting period unlike most other visas.
