A Septuagerian reflects - Posted at 03:14 on Saturday 7 November 2009 by FredRL

Having spent time in Egypt (2 years), Korea (1 year), Malaya (2 years) and Germany (more years than I care to remember) and Italy (4 years), age now enforces a less adventurous lifestyle - but, oh, how I enjoy reading the blogs of those who continue to enjoy adventures on foreign shores.

One such that was very pleasing was from a lady (Hazel, in 2006) who had spent some of her early years in Kuala Lumpur.   This raised so many memories of the KL that must now seem to many to be historic - long before anybody had even thought about towers called Petronas!   I recall with great affection such things as cricket on the Padang and the joys of wandering along the Batu Road in what was then (and I hope still is) a capital city that was an absolute delight.   Our first child was born in the British Miliary Hospital at Kinrara and we lived for a while in Petaling Jaya which then (in the mid-fifties) was very much a "new town" - I understand that it is even "newer" now with all the developments of the past half-century.   I tried to reply to Hazel's blog but was unfortunately unable to do so as it had "timed out".    If you are still out there Hazel, I.'d be delighted to swap memories of those days if you still wish to do so.   I'd be equally pleased to share memories of the area with others who were lucky enough to be  out there around that period.
