Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

The Constant Gardener

One of the best movies I've seen in a very long time!! Quoting USAToday "based on a John Le Carré novel, it has an epic feel that could make it a best-picture-Oscar contender".
I had this same feeling. It's a lot like the "The English Patient". I'm cutting and pasting from the review I read  earlier today on USAToday, because I concur with the views expressed.

"Don't be put off by the dull-sounding title: The Constant Gardener is a masterwork of suspense, romance and political intrigue.

Told in a non-linear style that requires close attention, the movie rewards viewers seeking a smart and complex love story with passion, betrayal, gorgeous cinematography, social commentary, stellar performances and clever wit. Based on a John Le Carré novel, it has an epic feel that could make it a best-picture-Oscar contender.

In his best performance since Schindler's List, Ralph Fiennes stars as Justin, a reserved British diplomat who is drawn to a passionate human rights activist, Tessa, played with brio by Rachel Weisz."

Something that popped into my mind was why the unusual title?? From another website:

Weisz and Fiennes play husband and wife: He's a quiet, decent English diplomat, with the pheasant-under-glass name Justin Quayle, who believes he knows how the world works; Weisz is Tessa, an activist who actually goes out into that world to shake it apart. And while the "constant gardener" of the title is most obviously Quayle (he spends much more time fussing over his rhododendrons than effecting diplomacy), it's Tessa who does the more constant tending, and not just when it comes to sexual nurturing: The grand, dark joke of the movie is that it's she who exterminates his political naiveté, as if it were a deadly garden plague.

Early Saturday morning ....

Just read Donna's blog and pissed myself laughing I told ya,  anyone can blog and laugh themselves silly at their own jokes  Two more Gordon & Rema stories from PP and almost spilt my coffee and nearly fell out of my computer chair,  I was laughing so hard   Keep it up PP, there are still many of us who read and enjoy your charming stories!!
Sat here long enough.  Ready for my second cup o' jo and then to get my Saturday morning on the road. Yeeha!!  Cul8r BE mates   Enjoy your weekend.
Nah I guess not It's fucking pissing down outside

3:56 p.m. The clouds have rolled away and it's a sunny and mild 70*F. We might even get the lawn mowed if the rain keeps off overnight   So dinner and a movie it is. The movie is "The Constant Gardener".  I think Chinese sounds good for dinner. Let hubby decide because I got to pick the movie.

It's quiet in The Lounge

But I like it that way   I suppose too quiet for the troll-types who call themselves members and like to leave a trail mayhem in their wake, but who gives a shit about them  Not cool
I 've just discovered the New Docile Trollop where you are always made to feel welcome, in true British pub fashion. There are the regulars nursing their favourite brand of poison  and sitting on their favourite bar stool. You can walk in and chat about this and that over drinks and that's always nice.
There are the Aussies who are pretty cool.  Debs, Cas and Carl -- hello there.  And Bix who manages a rare appearance.  He's a real sexy lion, you have to meet him.  Then there are the British bunch in Blighty.  Wicked Jester, PP, Em and Donna. The Canadians, chief among them the lovely Willmore and just met two others who are equally nice. And my favourite Dutch puppy, Toontje  He's been regaling us with his plans to be with Amy, his fiancee, in Texas in a few weeks. All the very best Toonie and Amy. Nothing warms the cockles of my heart like a story of true love .
I like to think I've finally found my niche on BE. It would be remiss if I didn't mention my Harry Potter/Phantom of the Opera friend Copulet -- oops I mean JCapulet.  Hi guys Nice getting to know you

What excitement!

What an exciting couple of days these have been!!  First PP says goodbye and then she's back before the forum tears have dried!!  Typical woman, as my Dad would say    It's ok PP I'm a woman so totally understand      Absolutely delighted to have you back Sweetie.

Then BE goes belly up for maintenance for a harrowing several hours  Back up and operational now sez Paul.  Well almost.

Lots of new blogs to catch up on.  Cindy's and Deb's look really interesting!!  Off to catch up now. That Cov I tell ya.  He starts to tell us about his unravelling turban and then goes AWOL

Typical fall day today. Foggy and downright chilly  Just noticed the leaves are starting to turn.  Oh well.  Let's face it.  Summer's over.

Emotional Post :(

7:17 AM, Saturday, September 10, 2005 .. 0 comments .. Link

Wrote an emotional entry about Sam's departure last night.  This morning it's gone   So from now on some blogs will only be for friends.  Don't want anyone misunderstanding the things I say. I understand better this morning because of something Bix has posted.  We'll miss Sam, but more strength to her.  When BE starts taking over your life, it's time to walk away, even for a short time.

I hope she'll see her way to coming back when she's feeling more positive about life.  So with that and warm wishes to Sam, I think I'll shut up.  Life goes on.  We love you Sam

Gordon the Cat

Fully paid up member of BE    I vote we make him the BE mascot!! Sam, please save those stories.  Gordon is definitely going to replace Garfield in the Cat world, if I have any say in the matter    Absolutely classic!!

Teehee!! Yes, Deb what's more appropriate than our very own Ginger pussy

Is Leslie sounding less than pleased with Ben the hunky trainer  I suppose we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out

Night all, time to get showered and ready for bed

Just when I thought I was over BE addiction, along come blogs .  It's taking over my life I tell you. At last I can post something my friends can read and I can ask those shady characters to "fuck off"  .  I love that!!! Can you believe that ?  I just typed fuck (there I did it again!!) and no sweary filter.  Blogs rock!!!!

Leslie and Syllk had us in fits last night in The Trollop.  Those two I tell you.  They should have their own tv program on Comedy Central .

PP hasn't made an appearance today   I hope she does though.  It's like your favourite column missing from your weekly magazine.  I NEED MY DAILY DOSE OF SMUT.  PP PLEASE COME BACK!!!

Cov dear, when are we going to have the latest update on that unravelling turban of yours ??
