Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

The Constant Gardener

One of the best movies I've seen in a very long time!! Quoting USAToday "based on a John Le Carré novel, it has an epic feel that could make it a best-picture-Oscar contender".
I had this same feeling. It's a lot like the "The English Patient". I'm cutting and pasting from the review I read  earlier today on USAToday, because I concur with the views expressed.

"Don't be put off by the dull-sounding title: The Constant Gardener is a masterwork of suspense, romance and political intrigue.

Told in a non-linear style that requires close attention, the movie rewards viewers seeking a smart and complex love story with passion, betrayal, gorgeous cinematography, social commentary, stellar performances and clever wit. Based on a John Le Carré novel, it has an epic feel that could make it a best-picture-Oscar contender.

In his best performance since Schindler's List, Ralph Fiennes stars as Justin, a reserved British diplomat who is drawn to a passionate human rights activist, Tessa, played with brio by Rachel Weisz."

Something that popped into my mind was why the unusual title?? From another website:

Weisz and Fiennes play husband and wife: He's a quiet, decent English diplomat, with the pheasant-under-glass name Justin Quayle, who believes he knows how the world works; Weisz is Tessa, an activist who actually goes out into that world to shake it apart. And while the "constant gardener" of the title is most obviously Quayle (he spends much more time fussing over his rhododendrons than effecting diplomacy), it's Tessa who does the more constant tending, and not just when it comes to sexual nurturing: The grand, dark joke of the movie is that it's she who exterminates his political naiveté, as if it were a deadly garden plague.

Sounds interesting.....but I think I'd have to drag my husband screaming and thrashing for him to go and see it. :D
