Devonian Botanic Garden - Edmonton

Today was my day off, you know me by now not one to stay in now the snow has gone so I took myself to the Devonian Botanic Garden.  It isn't quite in Devon but on the way there and takes me about 15 mins to get to in the car.

A reasonable $13.00 entry, the gardens were established in 1959 by the University of Alberta and is made up of 190 acres.

I was handed a map and one of the first things I went to was the Butterfly house, I like Butterflies but I kind of get a bit freeked out by them flying so close to me in an inclosed space, I did get ssome great pictures of them with my cool new camera, god I love it.

I wasn't going to post all the butterfly shots but I just couldn't single out any of the ones I took

The Devonian Garden is made up of different sections the next one I went to was Kurimoto Japanese Garden.

I don't think the beginning of May was the best time to go to the Gardens as the waterfall in the Japanese Garden wasn't flowing and nothing really was in bloom.

One of the gardens I did enjoy walking through was the Patrick Seymour Alpine Garden.  You were encouraged to walk up little paths and walk within the display.

While I was there, there were also quite a few school groups and they seemed to be having a whale of a time.  They were fishing for tagpoles they all had small nets and were by the pond.

A little conifer tree amongst some tall beasts.

I loved the fact there were different areas of the garden I now felt like I was on one of the many nature trails both Neil and I have been on.  This part was called Pineturn.

I had a wonderful day taking photos and looking about this Garden, I was going to get membership but might hold back and wait and see how many times I want to go.  I know Neils parents will love this and its one of the places that is one my list to show them.
