Road Trip to Vancouver - Day Eight

Golden, BC to Home, Edmonton total mileage 2,947 Km's travelled

After another breakfast at A & W, I know that's twice in a row and yes its showing I need to diet again!  We headed out of Golden and towards the Yoho National Park on Highway One.

We stopped at the Lower Spiral Tunnel Viewpoint, this is the second time we have stopped here the other time was on our recce trip and we still had no idea what we were surposed to be looking at!  I took the picture below anyway, better taking something than nothing.

Along Highway One is the BC/Alberta Boarder

We drove along the famous Highway 93, we didn't bother to stop at any of the sites along the way as I said before we have seen them previously.  The Crowsfoot and Lake Peyto etc etc etc.

We drove up to the Saskatchewan River Crossing and turned up Highway 11, towards Clearwater County

The picture below is the back end of Abraham Lake and behind is Mount Michener (8,350ft).

Abraham Lake is an artificial lake and was created in 1972 with the consruction of Big Horn Dam which was near by where this picture was taken.  The lake has its blue colour the same as glacier lakes along this highway because of rock flour.

We noticed a sign for Crescent Falls so took the trip down one of them horrible gravel paths.

I'm glad we did this time as this was so breathtaking, maybe not the best waterfall in the world but the area was stunning.  Saying that, not much rain has happened to make for great waterfall viewing!  The falls have a height of 25 meters (82 ft).

We did stop at another Ghost Town along the way, as if I hadn't learn't my lesson already.  This one was called Nordegg its tours left at 10am and 1pm which we had missed.  This one did look like a better one the minning was for coal and started in the1900's.  The operation was eventually drove out of business due to the fact of diesel locomotives.

Saying goodbye one last time to the wonderful mountains and heading back to the City.

Our Edmonton Countryside, not as pretty but it's home.

One of the signs near to home and boy was I glad to see it.  Being sat in a car for such a long length of time starts to ware on your back.

Home sweet home, I'm sat at my couch sipping red wine and typing my last Road Trip entry while Neil is watching Terminator 3.

I hope you have enjoyed our journey to Vancouver, I wanted to do it day by day because if I had to sit down and type it all out now it would take ages and ages!  Not half of what I would have wanted to type would be in here.

I know that I wouldn't want to live in Vancouver and probally won't be going back there again in a hurry.  The Rockies are for us there's just something about them that makes me smile.

Neil and I would go back to Hope and we loved the area around Golden, oh and Kamloops who could forget that place.

Neils also suggested our next Road Trip ........................ to Saskatchewan.  May have to research that one before we go.

Thanks for joining us on our Road Trip

Love Cassie
