Road Trip to Vancouver - Day Seven

It was another quite full on day of driving we left Chase and headed towards Salmon Arm, passing through Sicamous.  We drove past Craigellachie which has the importance for being the site of the last spike for the Canadian Pacific Railway.

This picture was from the Wiki page. of course it wasn't taken by me!  Everything else is.

We drove to Revelstoke where we stopped at A & W for breakfast before setting off again towards the Glacier National Park

The picture above is Rogers Pass unfortunatley the weather turned and started to sleet, that's the good old mountain weather for you.  Rogers Pass has an elevation of 1,330m and is the highest mountain pass through Selkirk Mountains of BC.used by the highway and the train.

One of the locals, above.

We carried on driving round to a place called Golden which we are now staying at until tommorrow morning.

Golden is very pretty with all the surrounding snowy mountains almost wraped around us.  There are in fact five different mountain ranges which are Yoho National Park, Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Glacier National Park and Kootenay National Park.  Golden is about 262 Km's from Calgary so we are now on the home run to Edmonton tommorrow.  One of the local ski resorts is Kicking Horse.

The Kicking Horse Pedesrian Bridge is the longest freestanding timber frame bridge in Canada.  The bridge structure is 150 feet long with a 210,000 pound Burr arch structure.  It was completed on September  2001

The Kicking Horse River is so much prettier than this picture I've taken.  Its such a nice green/Blue colour.  There's a story about how the area got its name Kicking Horse.  in 1858 James Hector was kicked by his packhorse while exploring the river.  Hector survived the incident and named the river and the pass as a result of the incident.

The population of Golden is 3,811 and the main industries are the Railway, Logging and Tourism.

The above picture is one of the streets of the town of Golden.

We didn't make it through to Yoho National Park just yet but I think we will be making an early start in the morning to get back home, I'm missing good old Edmonton.

See you back here tommorrow.
