Road Trip to Vancouver - Day Two

755km's to 445Km's = 1200 Km's

I had already typed this entry up and was nearly finished when I pressed the wrong button and lost it all so this is attempt number two.

This morning we left Barriere and headed towards Kamloops. on Highway Five.

Kamploops is so very very pretty and both Neil and I thought we could quit possibly live there.  It was also a great advantage to know that his company also have an office there.  From now on I have decided to Wiki the places that we are staying at or passing through so here's a bit on Kamloops which I thought was pretty interesting.

Kamloops is a city in south central BC at the confluence of the two branches of the Thompson River and near Kamploops Lake.  It is ranked 37th on the list of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada and the 4th largest census agglomeration in BC with 92,282 residents in 2006.

This picture was taken by the Railway Heritage Museum that we were wanting to go to but was shut.

As we were driving out of town we noticed a sign for Wildlife Park so we decided to go in, here's the pictures below.  I won't insult anyone you all know what animals they all are so I won't do captions.

We stayed at the wildlife park for a couple of hours and decided we should start to make tracks.  Instead of heading towards Vancouver we headed for Vernon.  Vernon is located in North Okanagan and the area reminded me so much of Italy with its great big lake and cliff roads.  We didn't stop around here as when I was looking at accomodation prices it was so expensive.  I'm want to do most of this trip on kind of a budget until we get to Vancouver.

We drove through Kelowna which is a big wine region, there are lots of vineyards situated there.  Then through Peachland, no I'm not joking and yes its a real name.  Then through to Summerland and Penticton all of which the prices for accomodation were still expensive.

We've stopped at a place called Priceton.  Princeton is a small town in the Similkameen region of BC.  It lies just east of the Cascade Mountains.  It has a population of 2,610 as of the 2001 census.  The motel we are in is cheap, $60 a night cheap so you can imagine yourselves what it looks like.  Its not as nice as the one yesterday but it has a bed, free internet and is clean that's the main thing.

Historically the areas's main industry has been mining, copper, gold, coal and some platinum.

There are a few Ghost Towns around here which we are going to go and have a look at tommorow not sure which one yet, they are Allenby, Granite City and Blakeburn.  It will probally be quite a strange experience.

Well that's me for tonight, I'm going to try not to press the wrong button as its quite late now and I don't want to go through typing all that again.

See you all tommorrow.
