Both Neil and I had the day off together so we decided to head off to Elk Island.
Its located about 47km east of Edmonton City Centre and takes about 45 mins to get there, there is a charge of $15.50 to get in but its well worth the visit.
We drove to The Astotin Lake area and parked up and took the Shoreline Trial which was a 6km walk. We were lucky enough to see some Bison walking across the frozen lake. Acording to the leaflet they would have been Plains Bison, their average size is 3.4 metres and weigh in at 730kg. I tried to take a photo but they were too far away, which I think is a very good thing but I could do with a camera with a better zoom.

The two objects in the middle are Bison.
Along the path we were travelling were lots of poo, I have no idea if this was Bison poo or maybe Elk or Moose but it was big. Yes I did take a photo.

After our walk part way round Astotin Lake because there is no path all the way round we went to the Shirley Lake Trail and the day was getting even hotter. The path still had lots of snow on it and kept getting inside my boots and wetting my socks, horrible.
We didn't spot any wildlife but we did hear a large pack of Coyotes and them guys sound evil, it sent shivers down my spine to hear their call.

Neil was getting very tired and he really didn't want this picture taking he just wanted to be back in the car and driving back to Edmonton.

Last night (Friday) when we got back home we were watching a DVD and were treated to a great big thunder storm, it seemed to go on for ages. Our first light display in Canada. |
