Sorry if you were expecting to see another car, but hey, look I have some in line skates. When I was younger I was always on my roller boots then when in line skates came out I was always on them with my best friend round the corner from me.
I have wanted some for ages as an adult but back in England you would recieve one or two very strange looks from people, or would probally even bitch how stupid you look. Here in Edmonton its normal so I have the chance to be a child again. As if I need a reason.
Snowboarding
I can't believe I went over to the dark side but both Neil and I did. To say its hard work is an understatement. I hated every moment of it. I couldn't pull myself up everytime I did I wasn't getting any grip on the slope. Boarding is a whole new ball game, knowing about skiing does not help in the slightest. We had an instructor teach us how to do it, Neil did great.
The one thing that finished me off was, being pulled up the lift. At Rabbit Hill they have a thick piece of rope that pulls you up the nursery slope. I went up for a second attempt, I completely lost it I fell on my back then hit my head and winded myself. I got myself out of the way and was led down on the slope crying my eyes out. I had purchased a helmet that morning but with snowboarding you have to wear helmets in lessons anyway, well I hope you do.
I was going to call it a day but no, I carried on, I decided to walk up hill instead of using the damn lift thing. I was alright coming down the slope but still was not confident with it and I felt I didn't have that much control with being able to stop. As time went on I got even more sore, butt and arms to be persice and people enjoy this sport!
I did try the lift again and pulled it off I guess the more you try the better you get but its too much like hard work. Your up and down all the time, clicking your boot in and out. Snowboarding is not for me. The instructor said after the lesson "well have I converted you" I said "no, I'm off to get my skis" we had brought them in the car. I was interested to know how many skiers this chap had managed to convert and he replied "Not many" Well I wonder why!
Neil really took to it and he said he might do it again.
Charity Event at Rabbit Hill
We had tickets for the charity event that evening, I arranged to meet up with a member from BE. Neil kept his snowboard and I was back my precious skis. It was a great evening we met up with two other British couples and had a blast.
Neil had bought the tickets through work so we saw some of his work colleagues and our social networking is starting to happen. Also we have found out that winter isn't a good time as most of the Edmontonians are hibernating but once summer hits we should hopefully be getting somewhere.
Here's a couple of pics I took of Neil Snowboarding, sorry none of me I couldn't wait to get the bloody thing off.
