My BE"versary

Warning, may waffle on a bit

Wow, I've been here a full year, I can't believe it.  By here I mean BE not Canada.

I've just looked to see when my very first blog entry was and it was dated 9th April 2008, this entry will make it my 109th.  I keep saying that one day I will go back through and have a laugh at myself.  I created the Blog as a diary, I wanted to get everything down and as you can see I have.  The blog didn't slow down when we got to Canada and I don't think it ever will.  Life is kind of difficult at times in your own country but when you are in a totally different place it can get even harder.   Like what the hell is 2% milk?  Where do you get driving licences from?  Don't worry I do know the answers to them now, I was just using examples.  I also like to get down our funny and first experiences.

So lets get back to good old British Expats . com I can't rate the site highly to be honest, I haven't been bribed by Sue or anyone I truly mean it.

I'm sat in my Canadian home office all because of this brilliant site instead of my English one.  I have been thinking of late that I must cut down my BE useage, I'm on far too much than I really should be but I kind of feel in debted to the site because of all its help.  I want to help others like it has helped me, I'm sure there is some useful expat information in that head of mine, or just support or mybe just to put a smile on someones face with some stupid comment or silly thing I've been up to.

I'm still going through our PR forms and I have asked one or two silly questions again recently.  I think they are so state the obvious that not many people have replied.  The questions are easy to answer for some, when they know what they are doing though.  Over time I have seen the same old questions pop up but I try to remember what I was like when I first joined.  I couldn't believe I had found a site that had all the questions I wanted to know.  I dived straight in as do most newbies, I know I have said this before but I got such nasty responses I asked to leave after 10 mins.

Some BE members don't mess or pussy foot around, they will let you know you've asked the same question as loads of others and will inform you to use the search button or read wiki, don't take offence like I did, stick around.  BE is a good site to just pull away from!  Oh and yes I do use the Wiki and search button.

I know this is also going to sound very silly to people that don't understand but you actually make firends here with other folk.  It never seems to amaze me that I can be talking to people all across the globe and its great if you need a pick me up.  There has been times in the general forums where I have taken things too personally but I'm still learning after a year the type of humour in there

Another good thing now is there's always someone on line that I know now and can have a chat via PM.  Wheather they want to chat back to me is a different story though    I have also started to chat with people that live in Edmonton via telephone, my god can you believe that, real voices that go with the names on line.

Life can be hard in expat world in general, you don't have many friends in the outside world but on BE there are so many people in your situation that we all do support each other when things are down.  Family and Friends back home don't really understand and neither do the Canadian friends you make (or what ever country you move to)  Please remember we have only been in Canada for over three months so its still early days with regards to this comment.

I'm going to renew my subscription when it comes up (not sure when that is) for another year, the way I look at it is what you get back from Expos and Books is nothing compared to the stuff you can get off BE for virtually the same price.

So roll on another year and see what else happens that creates more entries for this blog.

Congratulations

WTG on the one yr anniversary. Sorry though that you do not like the BE site. Your comments make me wonder continue to stay ;-( i.e. I can't rate BE highly or BE is a good site to pull away from. What would you change to make this a better site?

Sounds like you are growing (mentally)

Hi Cassie, congratulations on your BE anniversary and well done on growing in your new online life. It is strange how you feel connected to people you have never physically met or even spoken with. We are having a shared experience virtually --- weird eh?

For the attention of Rete and Others

I would like to point out that I love BE and I'm very addicted to it, I'm on every day in fact.

I'm sorry that it came across that I don't like BE as this is not what I was getting at, I was trying to give a reflection on my first year.

Sorry if I have caused confusion and hope you continue to enjoy my blog.

Love It

Enjoy reading your blog, Cassie.

Perhaps it was a misunderstanding of languages. We yanks would have said, I can't rate BE highly enough and BE is not a site to pull away from.

Darn the differences in our common language LOL
