At last, we've got one.

A Nintendo Wii

We hadn't planned on getting one at all.  We were waiting in a very long line at Best Buys as I had to buy a new printer to pint off that all important resume I have to type out for tying to get myself some sort of work lined up.

As we were waiting in line the person in front was holding a Wii and Wii Fit.  Neil and I looked at each other puzzled as there has been no stock of these for ages.  We asked the people in front where they had managed to find them and as you can see we are now proud owners of a Wii.

Last nght we were up until 3am playing the bloody thing.  I love baseball, bowling and  tennis and the Wii fit is really good.  The only thing is  I woke up this morning with such a sore right arm from waving it about half the night trying to beat the othe half at tennis.  To say we are competitive against each other is an understatement, believe me!

Today

We got up quite late this morning, 10am.  By the time we spoke to the folks and had some breakfast it was time to go off out.  I was dying to check out the Old Strathcona Farmers Market, I love going to places like that.

The people there make the produce themselves and sell it onto folk like me.  We purchased some Elk meat, sausages and also bought some Perogies.  Our landlady told us about them apparently most Edmontons eat them.  Its originally Ukrainian Food and there are different flavours to them we got the Cheddar Bacon ones.  I think there are 24 of them in a bag for $7, god  hope we like them.  Apparently you can snack on them or have them with a meal ie sausage and Perogies.  The lady gave me the cooking instructons and I shall report back and let you know what we make of them.

The Farmers Market open 8am till 3pm

After that we had a little look around Old Strathcona, its a lovley town.  There are lots of independent shops around also a hell of a lot of pubs and clubs.

On the way back there had been a very bad crash involving three cars.  God knows how it had happened but luckly no one was hurt.  Its still very icy on the roads and like I have menioned before people here don't seem to want to slow down.

I decided I wanted to take some more pictures of the city, its been quite cold here again today around -26.  We were wrapped up pretty warm with our fleece lined jeans and big coats on.  The cold really gets to your nose and quite often freezes your nostril hairs up, very strange.

The river was almost all frozen over.

Perogies

I'm of Polish descent and these are our favorites. We like the potato and cheese and plain cheese ones. If they are fresh perogies, just boil a pot of water, when boiling shut it off and drop in the perogies for about five minutes to heat them up. Some people like to fry them after this which is how my non-Polish Canadian husband likes them. Place butter in a frying pan, when melted put in a layer of perogies and cook until browned to your liking on one side and turn them over to do the other side. Serve with onions sauteed in butter and a dollop of sour cream. In our Polish family we eat them just as they come from the boiling water and drizzled with the butter and onions and with sour cream.
