Tip Number One

This refers to Edmonton Alberta, I can't talk for other areas of Canada.

When you move here and get your house/apartment or whereever you decide to live, make sure you get your Utility bill(s) in both you and your partners name.

The reason for this is because we have struggled getting our drivers licence over the last few days.  They want to see your passport, work permit and a Bank statement or Utility bill as proof of your address.  We moved in on 8th December and still hadn't received our bill from the power company and it is now 19th December.  We asked them to fax a copy of the bill to Neil's work and even though Neil asked for my name to be on it, it wasn't.  With this ongoing problem it caused us to delay getting our licence.

As we live in an apartment we only have a bill for our power as water, heating and rates are included in our monthly rental bill.  We also couldn't use our rental agreement as this is with a private landlord and not a company.  We managed to get our licence last night at last.

This can also cause an issue with getting State Health Care Insurance sorted as well and as soon as you get that address get your Utility Bills in both names, to save any delays.  I hope this helps someone.

Hockey Game

We are going to our first hockey game tonight, I'm so excited.  Neil's boss is giving us free tickets to the game its against the Anaheim Ducks.  I'll be taking the camera, of course.  So, Go Oilers Go!
