Canadian Cargo Customs
What a day out ,I bet your all green with envy. If I could have taken you all, I promise I would have done.
As we have no car, hired or our own, yet. I had to book a taxi. I must have ordered the most careful taxi driver in Edmonton, which by the way I didn't think was possible.
I was kind of worried on the way there that I wouldn't have enough money for the trip back. Now wouldn't that have been an interesting read for you all an "I'm at Edmonton International, get me outta here!" kind of moment.
We made it eventually to customs having said that the guy didn't really know where he was going and all I had was a printed map. It seemed simple enough to me. I told him to just drive to the airport and we would figure it out from there as surly there would be a sign. He kept looking at the piece of paper while he was driving and sometimes virtually hitting the kurb. He also at one point made a few calls on his mobile and moving from England where reports have been proven that driving while on your "Cell" phone is not a good idea as you get distracted and is also aganist the law.
I made my way to the desk and the taxi driver was wanting to stop and wait. I wanted to just pay up as I couldn't afford to have him hang around while the clock was ticking. He kept saying "its fine, its fine, I'll wait for you". I looked at him and said "Look I'm not being funny but.... I really can't afford for you to wait, this is going to take longer than 5 mins" I went outside and paid up the just over $60 bill, yes $60 you read that right. He gave me his cell number and off he went on his merry way, apparently he was going to wait around the area for about half hour to 40mins.
Here's the Customs part
I had to fill out a form, and everything was quite straight forward, she said she would clear it with where our container is stored and she would have the release faxed over in a few hours.
I got on the phone to hubby blah blah blah, this part is just too boring for you guys then I got on the phone to my taxi driver. God knows where he went off to, it took him a good 10 mins to get to me. He informed me that he decided to make his way home when I called . I wasn't that long he said he would wait around for 30-40 mins.
On the way back there were a fair few cars that had come off the road, one of them had only just happened. One of the big truck things, it goes to show it dosen't make any difference what you drive in Alberta. If there is ice on the road SLOW DOWN, it just isn't worth it. There were taxi's off the road and another one of them trucks had smacked into a road sign, it looked pretty bad.
I got back and called our removal company and they are sayng they could deliver our stuff on 20th which is this Saturday. I'm so happy, sitting on the floor hurts your back after a while. |
