Another Apartment and Driving

Nothing Important Happened Today!

Well another day but not another dollar yet, (just thought I would say that comment it sounded good).

One of the other apartment renters got hold of us last night and we arranged for a viewing at 9am this morning.

We got there before they did and the distance from Neil's work is about the same as the other one.  They managed to get the key stuck in the door (god I hope that doesn't happen to us).  They were a husband and wife team and they seem nice enough.  I think if we took this appartment they would be more willing to help us out.  Their daughter has gone to Engalnd, Devon I think it was, teaching.

This one is a nine year old appartment block but has three bedrooms and most of the other rooms in it are bigger than the first one we viewed as well.  There was also parking for one car underground and another outside with added storage space wit in the underground garage. (very handy for bikes etc)  This one was only $95 extra per month than the other we saw.  The down side of this one was that it has blue carpets and the appliances are older but I am going to see past that with the added space it give us.  The area is much better with this one as well.

After we viewed the appartment we took a drive to St Albert, we stopped by at a sports shop and this is where the fun  began.  We bought ourselves a set of skis, boots and poles.  We weren't looking for any but they were such a good price and I now have a cute baby blue set everything matching.  I have butterflies on my skis (so very cute, I'll upload pics when we pck them up in  a couple of days as they need bindings)

After that we headed to the Science Museum, god I love that place.  We are going to be getting yearly passes when we finally get our accomodation sorted.  We telephoned the lady from the second appartment to tell her we would like to go with it but we needed to get hold of the girl from the first one.  I was a bit hasty last night because I thought we were never going to get hold of any of them, they always appeared to be engaged.  We don't have the time to be waiting around for people to call us back.

We haven't signed anything for the first accomodation, and we have tried to get hold of them a few times but they are never in.  I will try and send them an e-mail and see if I get a reply from that.

Driving

After our trip from the museum it was time for some food so we started trying to find somewhere to eat.  I pulled into a retail park.

As you drive through them there are zebra crossings across the road to the shops from the parking area.  We have to drive quite slowly as people who are crossing have the right of way.   I kept on having to stop and let people cross well anyway the person behind me in a merc got a bit upset and started beeping me.

I have no idea what he wanted me to do! I couldn't go any faster as like I said there were people wanting to cross.  I decided it would be best to take a next turn and get away from him but he turned to.  I was wondering if he was going to start following us so I pulled over to one side to let him past then he stopped right behind me.

I put my indicator on to tell him I was stopping then he over took me very slowly, I made an effort  not to bother looking at him then he drove of normally and went away.  This whole situation threw me, and made me a little upset, I was doing really well up until that point and it made my evening quite crap.  Neil couldn't see what the guys problem was either but I couldn't drive then it had really annoyed me so we changed over.

Don't get me wrong not all of them are horrible drivers, I have found most of them quite polite.  Most of them let you in when you are indicating but a small number can be very rude.

Accomodation Searching

If only it was that easy!

The way we have done the whole appartment searching is on the internet and also having a drive round the areas that we are interested in and had a look at the areas.  Sometimes they advertise with great big boards that they are renting.

We left messages on answer phones but no one was getting back to us, this is kind of fustrating.  After a couple of e-mails and more phone calls later we managed to view an appartment where there are lots of empty rentals.  The apartment is a new one and she showed us three different lay outs.

I fell in love with one, the view is not get on any of them  but who cares, we will only be there for a year and even if we did want to go before the lease ends we would only have to pay $300 to get out.  The apartment comes with heating and water included and there does seem to be a wireless connection there as well.  The rent was resonable for a two bed apartment.

As we couldn't get hold of any other rentals we have decided to go with it, it offers most of our check list which includes not one but two indoor heated parking stalls.

After we had a look around the apartments and tried and failed to ge hold of other rental people we went out.  We decided to go out for a walk along the river we parked close to the Valley Zoo and walked up Buena Vista Park and turned round at the bridge that crosses over to William Hawrelak Park.

There was lots of ice floating by on the river here's a picture

After that we went to West Edmonton Mall and had a little look round, I was wanting  a book on Edmonton and I found one called Edmonton book of Everything by Macintyre Purcell Publishing Inc.  Apparently everything you wanted to know about Edmonton and were going to ask anyway.  It looks an interesting book.  It includes chapters like Urban Geography, Economy and then and now.  Its not very long only 192 pages but I think it would be a good read for anyone interesting in Edmonton the ISBN is 978-0-9738063-4-2 for anyone who is interested.

When we got  back to the hotel and as I was typing this the phone rang and it was one of the rental people calling, returning our phone call.  We have arranged to view another appartment but I can't see it beating the one we like already.

So your up to date
