Problematic Week!

On Tuesday afternoon the Star Choice man came and decided straight away that our week old receiver was broken. He phoned Star Choice to let them know and ask them to get another sent to us. They made him go through all the set up and test things they had gone through with us on Saturday. I’m glad it wasn’t just me they were treating like an idiot. Eventually they agreed that it was broken and said they would send another one out.

They asked to speak to hubby as the account was in his name and told him they would send one out and we would get it in a couple of weeks and that we would be charged $13.50 for the pleasure. Hubby was not too pleased about this and advised the call centre woman as such. She said she could speed up the delivery to about a week but we would still have to pay the delivery fee.

Hubby went rather red in the face and told her that if that was the case, we would pack all the Star Choice stuff up and they could have the whole lot back and refund us all our money. At this point the woman decided she could remove the delivery fee after all.

Helpful Note: If you buy Star Choice, get the receiver from a retailer, not direct from Star Choice. If you buy from a retailer you can take it back to them and get a refund or new unit straight away instead of having to wait for SC to send one out to you.

Since having no TV we have been watching the birds in our garden. We have loads of beautiful birds such as red cardinals, blue jays, red-winged blackbirds, hummingbirds, grackles, woodpeckers, various sparrows and many more.

We also have a good few critters such as chipmunks, groundhogs and rabbits. We have also seen deer nearby, but not on our actual land. Also something is raiding the bird feeders at night and emptying all the nuts and eating them all. Not sure what it is yet, possibly a racoon. Other critter we have seen nearby as road kill include porcupine, racoons and skunks.

On Wednesday the internet man came again and finally got us linked up to the internet. Trouble was, after he left it went off again. We could not get it back. As fate would have it he had left one of his tools at our house, so came back later to get it. Hubby cornered him and he came in and tried to get the internet on his laptop, but couldn’t. He said he would come back on Thursday to have another look (he couldn’t stop as he had another visit planned).

On Thursday morning, we managed to get internet connection for two hours, then it went off again. Later in the day we had it again for an hour. When the man came back we told him the times it had worked etc. He explained that several people had had similar problems and that some maintenance had been done on the tower to improve the system. He managed to get us connected again and (fingers crossed) it has worked ok since then.

Almost certain a Coon going for the feeder, although we did have turkeys once roosting on one of ours that made it fall down, and I have seen a Squirrel pull the glass out of one of those big ones to let all the seed out.

We have a problem now with Coons being attracted to the drippings from the new BBQ. Going to try some "Critter Ridder" or that other smelly stuff to keep them away.

Took this mug shot the other night.

That's brilliant - talk about being caught in the act!

We must keep an eye out to see what is getting at ours, same as you I suspect. They are cute though!
