Immigration JournalThe story of two people who emigrated from the UK to Ontario, Canada July 2006.Home | Profile | Archives | Friends
Welcome to Canada...That is what the immigration office said to us last night when we arrived! We flew in with Zoom and had a very pleasant, uneventful flight. Arrived in Toronto early and there were hardly any queues for immigration which was a nice surprise. We went up to the woman on the desk and told her that although we had our PR visa, we did not want to land at this time. She asked us how long we were staying and how much money we had with us and how many bags we had to collect. She then did a bit of typing and covered our visa waiver form with pink pen and sent us on our way - she wasn't the nicest of people. We then went through to immigration proper and was seen almost immediately by a very nice man who asked us the same questions, but in a nicer manner and again did a lot of typing. He asked us why we were not landing now and we explained that we were over for two weeks to hopefully find a property to buy and that we would land for good in a few months. He explained that we had to land before the visa ran out, stamped our passport and welcomed us to Canada. All in all a very quick and painless proceedure. We then collected our bags, got on a shuttle to the hotel and flaked out for the night. Up bright and early this morning - 5.30am. Planning to have some breakfast, pick up our hire car and head on out to Belleville. We want to drive around a bit today to get the lay of the land and as of tomorrow we are house hunting with a local realtor. Speak soon....
