The Plan - Escape to St LuciaPosted on Tuesday 6 May 2008 at 05:05I haev been reading the vaarious forums and blog for a while now and i am amazed at how amny people are planning their escape from the Uk in hopes of a better way of life. As a couple we had wanted to move to the caribbean for the last 25 years but life gets in the way. Finally a couple of years ago my mother-in-law died and this gave the other half the impetus to move. Previously there was no way he would have left her as there is no other family. I am not saying that we haven't had a good life. We have a fantastic son, we have worked hard, travelled the world and have our own home but there was always that nagging wish to have different type of life. A decision was made. After many years of exploring the various caribbean islands, we made the decision to buy a property with the purpose of permanantly relocating. December 2005 we bought a house on the beautiful island of St Lucia. The house has been rented out but soon it will be our home. This is the year we move. We have justed returned from a visit. it was great to be back. So much & yet so little has changed. There has obviously been money spent due to the Cricket World Cup, but the island, the people and the house is still as fantastic as the last time we saw it in 2005. It just feels right! So, since returning, as well as doing all the normal domestic chores, fitting in 40 hour weeks at work we are now getting the UK house ready to sell, sorting out the huge amounts of rubbish that accumulates. especially as we have been in our current home for 20 years. It suddenly all seems very real. However we have been building up to this for, seems like forever. We are hoping to have the house on the market by the end of May. No idea what its worth. Once it is sold - all systems go. The only reservation I have is that after working full time since I was 16 years old and a working mother, I wonder will I find enough to do. I plan to do more creative activities and be more active, maybe even learn to swim properly. We will be in a position so we will not have to work but I am worried I will get bored. My other half can't wait. He thinks I am worrying unduly. He says I will find things to do. He is probably right.
