New Centres of Excellence To Process Temporary Work Visas Print E-mail

Dedicated Centres of Excellence now up and running in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, said today. The centres were established on July 1 to deal with the increasing demand for overseas workers by Australian companies to meet skills shortages. More than 100 000 subclass 457 visas were granted in 2007-08.

Proposed New Laws to Reform 457 Visa Program Print E-mail

The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, will introduce new laws to help prevent the exploitation of temporary skilled foreign workers and ensure the wages and conditions of Australian workers are not undercut. The Minister today released a discussion paper seeking stakeholder feedback on proposed reforms to the 457 visa regime following the $19.6 million commitment in the 2008-09 Budget to improve the processing and compliance of the temporary skilled migration program.

Free Information Seminar by The State Governments of Australia Print E-mail

The State Governments of Australia (Queensland - Brisbane, South Australia - Adelaide, Victoria - Melbourne and Western Australia - Perth) will be hosting free information sessions on skilled and business migration. The events will be held in a central Glasgow location on the 7th July 2008 and a central Manchester hotel on the 8th July 2008 from 6pm – 8pm.

Australia’s Permanent Additions on the Rise Print E-mail

The latest publication of Immigration Update has shown a significant increase of 8.8 per cent in the number of permanent additions to Australia’s population between July and December 2007 compared with the corresponding period for 2006, a Department of Immigration and Citizenship spokesman said today.
